Depression

Asian and Pacific Islander (API) Americans appear to experience an increased risk for depression and Chinese Americans report the highest rates of lifetime prevalence of depression.  Unfortunately, because of the stigma associated with mental health issues and difficulty finding mental health practitioners who are linguistically and culturally competent, many API Americans do not seek treatment or delay seeking treatment. Without treatment, depression can worsen over time and become more difficult to treat or can tragically lead to suicide.
